FILM FESTIVAL NEWS: Madeleine Gavin’s CITY OF JOY Among The Tallgrass Film Festival official selections for brand new DOX Spotlight Competition featuring female-directed documentaries

The 15th Annual Tallgrass International Film Festival presented by Consolidated Equities Trust (October 18-22) today announced the three films that will compete in its new DOX Spotlight Section. DOX Spotlight is sponsored by Greteman Group. The female-helmed documentaries include Madeleine Gavin’s CITY OF JOY, Skye Borgman’s FOREVER ‘B’ and Robin Berghaus’ STUMPED.

“This year’s selections feature stories and characters that are both timely and easily relatable, while delivering a unique and bold take, leading to films that feel anything but familiar,” said Tallgrass Film Festival Programing Director Nick Pope. “Ultimately these are films about redemption and self-discovery in a world that can be messy and unpredictable, but also rewarding and surprising. We’re honored to be showcasing these stories to Wichita audiences.”

FILM FESTIVAL NEWS: Kickstarter and Factory 25 team up to save 90s indie classic Alexandre Rockwell ‘s IN THE SOUP

Kickstarter is working with Factory 25 on the project as well as to help spread the word about the re-release of the film’s 25th Anniversary this year (first ever digital). Apparently, the only archival b&w print of the film had been damaged, but now fans of the film and the filmmaker can have a hand in restoring the damaged print and re-releasing it.

FILM FESTIVAL NEWS: The Dallas Film Society and Studio Movie Grill team up for a Movie Madness Marathon

The Summer Movie Madness Marathon mimics fundraising walks, runs, and bike rides, with the participants asked to acquire pledges from friends, family, co-workers, etc. to donate funds based on whether or not they watch all four films that day. There will also be prizes for the film fans given away at each screening and for the most money raised for the organization, as well as special appearances to introduce each of the films.
