25th Anniversary of Kineo Awards set to honor Faye Dunaway, Nicola Peltz Beckham, DINNER WITH DANTE, ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER, and more
The renowned Kinéo Awards announced honorees for its 25th Anniversary edition, including Faye Dunaway, Nicola Peltz Beckham, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. Cecilia Miniucchi’s dramatic short film, Dinner With Dante will receive the “Diamonds at Cinema” award. This will mark consecutive years that Miniucchi’s work has been honored by the Kinéo Awards. The awards take place on September 5 at Casa Cinema Giovani with a private dinner to follow at Hotel Ca’ Sagredoon at the 83rd Venice Film Festival (September 2-12).
Dunaway will receive a lifetime achievement award adding to a host of honors the Academy Award-winning film legend, known for such classics as Bonnie and Clyde, Network, Chinatown, and more, has received. Beckham will receive the Rising Star Award, citing her work as an actress, producer, and filmmaker. Dunaway and Beckham will soon be seen onscreen together in Alessandro and Luca Morelli’s Prima.
Last year, Miniucchi’s film No Place Like Home garnered Italian actress Cristiana Capotondi the Kinéo Award for Best Italian Actress in an International Film, while Miniuccchi received a special Kinéo Award for being the first and only female Italian director to begin and continue her career in the U.S.
Directed by Miniucchi from a script by Katherine Schimmel, Dinner with Dante, focuses on a young woman (Gaia Botazzi) who is unable to fully recover from the death of her fiancé in World War II. That trauma has frozen her and her life in time, just like the statue of Dante, at the Piazza Santa Croce outside the Basilica of Santa Croce, with whom she has an ongoing internal relationship and dialog reflecting on war and his Inferno. Shot in Florence, and filmed in black and white, Dinner with Dante is a poetic exploration of how the personal devastation from wartime conflict and the loss of loved ones can continue to burn in stasis, even while time and life goes on.
Other honorees include Paul Thomas Anderson’s Academy Award-winning One Battle After Another (Best International Film), Chiara Francini (Best Actress), Maria Gifuni (Best Supporting Actress), Raniero Monaco di Lapio (Best Actor, Series), Sara Lazzaro (Best Actress, Series), and Paolo Calvano (Best Child Star). A special nod to international cinema will include Turkish star Alp Navruz, and Mexico’s Oka Giner. The Kinéo Award, conceived and directed by Rosetta Sannelli, is an award that combines the judgment of the public and a high-caliber jury of industry experts. It has always been an official collateral special event at the Venice International Film Festival.
