VOD REVIEWS: Nicolas Pesce ‘s THE EYES OF MY MOTHER chills and charms as only a beautiful country surgeon could

Since, by design, the audience spends a lot of time with the character of Francisca, we are made complicit in her actions toward the unfortunate people that come into her isolated universe. The film emphasizes “less is more” both in terms of gore and information, so we are left to our imaginations to determine what exactly just happened or what has transpired during long stretches of time in between the films “chapters.”

VOD Reviews: Gregori Viens ‘s PUNCHING HENRY gives you a front row seat to the unique comedy mind of Henry Phillips

Phillips is not a slapstick, broad comedy guy. His humor reels you in and teases you into figuring out “where this is going” before he lowers the boom. Persona-wise, Phillips revels in the same. Soft-spoken, perpetually befuddled over the behavior – either lacking in reasonability or understanding or flat-out rude – of those around him, he moves like a mild-mannered bull in a china shop as he tries to accomplish the simplest of tasks.

VOD Reviews: Ricky Gervais ‘s DAVID BRENT: LIFE ON THE ROAD revisits one of the classic characters in cult comedy in a return to the world of “The Office” with more than a hint of “Spinal Tap” to it

Trading in the crass and confrontational as he so often does, Gervais is actually very skilled in finding the humanity in the least likely of situations and character exchanges. In fact, he may be the best at demonstrating that good can be found in people whose book cover would have been judged as a lost cause.

VOD Reviews: Josh Forbes ‘s CONTRACTED: PHASE II is a satisfying cautionary tale of the potential zombie effects of not having same sex

Riley’s journey in this film, his realization, denial, acceptance, decision to act, etc. all mirrors what happened in the first film almost beat by beat. So, the key questions for the viewer (or prospective viewer) is; Did you see the first film and liked it or were entertained? And, if you did not – do you gravitate toward any film playing with the idea of zombies?
