Tallgrass Film Festival’s Program Director Nick Pope said, “While this will be the first time we have honored someone with the Tallgrass Film Festival’s Soaring Talent Award, Martin Starr actually fits the profile of both the filmmakers and the films we put on the pedestal here in Wichita – ‘Stubbornly Independent., Moving between film and television, he has created indelible characters that never cease to entertain us, He has perfected both the left-of-center everyman, as well as the eccentric Greek chorus character, among his rich cast of characters. We are very excited to honor him with this award.”

Sponsored by the Bonavia Family Charitable Trust, Tallgrass will present the Soaring Talent Award to Starr at the Scottish Rite Theater (332 E. 1st Street) on Sunday, October 21 at 3:45PM. Followed the presentation will be a “Conversation on Film” discussing Starr’s career, which will lead into a screening of Sean McGinly’s SILVER LAKE. The film is set in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles and follows Nathan (Starr), a writer, who is caught between the odd world of his eccentric friends and the more stable world of his girlfriend and her young children.
