FILM FESTIVAL NEWS: Program Director Nasri Zacharia of The Harlem International Film Festival Announces Call for Entries for 2018 edition of the fest

Program Director Nasri Zacharia of The Harlem International Film Festival today announced its annual Call for Entries for the 13th edition of the film festival which will take place next year, May 3-6.

Led by Program Director Nasri Zacharia and Director of Operations B. Lorenzo Roaché, Hi screens films in the following categories: Animation, Documentary, Narrative, Experimental, Music Video, Webisode, and Youth Film,

for some of the most enthusiastic film audiences in New York City, as well as hosting a screenplay competition for aspiring and accomplished writers both locally and around the globe.


The Harlem International Film Festival has screened over 900 of the world’s finest films from several countries including: Argentina, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Lebanon, Mexico, Mozambique, New Zealand, Panama, Poland, Russia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Trinidad & Tobago, the UK, and the US as well as bestowing over 300 awards including our illustrious annual Mira Nair Award for Rising Female Filmmaker.

Hi waives submission fees for films produced in or about Harlem or other Uptown neighborhoods above 96th Street, or featuring key cast or crew members from the area.
Roaché said, “Going into our 13th year, we are further grounding our position as a springboard for local NYC talent. We remain one of Harlem’s best kept secrets and the fact is that we are consistently discovering and nurturing some of the most passionate and insightful work from around the world here in the heart of the most influential city in the country at a time when these voices need to be heard more than ever.”

The Harlem International Film Festival has competition categories for both Feature length and Short projects. Feature Documentaries are considered 45 minutes and over and Narrative Features are 60 minutes and over (including titles and end credits).  Short works in Narrative, Documentary and Experimental can all be applied for under the general Shorts category.
Animation, Music Video and Webisodes each have their own category.  Youth projects must have been completed while the director, producer or primary cast were under 21 years old.
