Hico, Texas’ Billy the Kid Film Festival announces added screening and appearance by Michael Martin Murphey
The 7th Annual Billy the Kid Film Festival (November 7-9) has added Eric Parkinson’s Wildfire: The Legend of the Cherokee Ghost Hors, inspired by Michael Martin Murphey ‘s timeless hit song “Wildfire,” as the finale for the festival’s Music Film Block on Saturday, November 8, 2025, starting at 5:30PM.

The country music legend and celebrated singer-songwriter will be in attendance and will participate in a Q&A to discuss the making of the movie, the inspiration behind the song, and his five-decade career in music.

The film, which features Murphey in a supporting role as a local pastor, tells an enchanting story of redemption, faith, and the unbreakable bond between a grieving young girl and a mysterious wild horse.

Following the screening and Q&A, Mr. Murphey will also honor a filmmaker later that evening during the festival’s filmmaker awards ceremony. He will personally present the inaugural Michael Martin Murphey Music Film Award, recognizing excellence in a film that utilizes music as a core narrative element.
