The Arkansas Cinema Society (ACS) and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival (HSDFF) announced the virtual presentation of David Darg and Price James’ YOU CANNOT KILL DAVID ARQUETTE to take place Wednesday, October 7th at 7:00PM CST.
The screening will bridge two of Arkansas’ great film festivals, with ACS coming off of an exciting week with their drive-in FILMLAND 2020 festival October 1st through 4th and HSDFF celebrating its Opening Night two days later on October 9.
HSDFF’s first ever Live Virtual Speakeasy Chat with David and Christina McLarty Arquette will take place prior to the Opening Night screening of Mary Wharton’s JIMMY CARTER: ROCK & ROLL PRESIDENT.
The special event will only be available for ACS Members and HSDFF Film Buff and All-Access Passholders.
The Arkansas Cinema Society’s Filmland is a curated annual celebration of cinema with a mission to nurture and inspire filmmakers in Arkansas by exposing Arkansans to filmmakers and their art.
“ACS is doing incredible work as they tirelessly invest in independent filmmakers by closing the gap between the film industry and the storytellers of this region, says Artistic Director Jen Gerber. “This screening is a perfect marriage of both organizations’ missions as we each aim to serve independent filmmakers while showcasing some of the best films of the year! This co-presented screening is a great way to celebrate the success of FILMLAND and kick off the 29th Annual Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival with such an unforgettable film and discussion,” says Gerber.
Screening Wednesday, October 7 at 7:00PM, David Darg and Price James’ YOU CANNOT KILL DAVID ARQUETTE focuses on actor David Arquette’s parallel career and identity as entertainment wrestling’s most hated competitor. What began as a promotional stunt for a film in the 1990s, outraged a generation of wrestling fans and permanently altered the trajectory of Arquette’s life. The film follows him as twenty years later, he returns to the ring seeking redemption. However, his desire to earn respect leads to increasingly extreme and violent situations. Featuring the Arquette siblings, Luke Perry, and ex-wife Courtney Cox, this is the ultimate comeback story. A raw and intimate portrait of a man obsessed with validation. The film is produced by Arkansas native Christina McLarty Arquette, Ross Levine, Bryn Mooser, and Stacey Souther.
Also provided in partnership with ACS, the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival will host its first ever Speakeasy Happy Hour Series with special guests Christina and David Arquette, Friday, October 9 at 4:00PM. The city of Hot Springs boasts of a colorful past that mixes healing waters, spas and a National Park with some of the most notorious gangsters of that time. Playing off this prohibition history, HSDFF is launching a new virtual SPEAKEASY series, moderated by David Hill, a Hot Springs native and renowned author of the book The Vapors: A Southern Family, the New York Mob, and the Rise and Fall of Hot Springs, America’s Forgotten Capital of Vice.
The HSDFF Speakeasy Series and other Live Virtual talks will feature special guests of the festival, including filmmakers, film subjects, and honorees. The events are a fun and interactive way for audiences to directly connect with the extraordinary guests at HSDFF 2020.
