The Featherweight
Starring: James Madio, Ron Livingston Directed by: Robert Kolodny
Synopsis:
Set in the mid-1960s in Hartford, Connecticut, The Featherweight presents a gripping chapter in the true-life story of Italian-American boxer Willie Pep the winningest fighter of all time–who, down and out in his mid-40s and with his personal life in shambles, decides to make a return to the ring, at which point a documentary camera crew enters his life. Painstakingly researched and constructed, the film is a visceral portrait of the discontents of twentieth-century American masculinity, fame and self-perception.
Critics Say:
“The Featherweight” elevates its been-there story of middle-aged guys chasing their glory days with some smart, unexpected performances and a genuinely intriguing aesthetic frame.
– Clint Worthington, RogerEbert.com
As a feat of cinematic masquerade, it could hardly be pulled off with any more panache: The term “mockumentary” hardly feels appropriate for a film this reverent of its supposed form, and this toughly loving toward its human subject.
– Guy Lodge, Variety

A Fantastic Relationship
Starring: Nikki McKenzie, Bridge Stuart Directed by: Bridge Stuart
Synopsis:
Katie and Brian’s relationship is a dysfunctional mess. After a particularly ugly spat involving a hideous tattoo and the airing of long-simmering grudges, the two call it quits. Soon after, Katie receives a call from her sister Natalie, a high-powered lawyer whose accomplishments have overshadowed Katie their entire lives. Natalie is in town and invites Katie and her (now ex) boyfriend to a dinner party. In an impulsive move to keep up appearances, Katie accepts the invitation for both of them. Baited by the idea of finding “closure,” Brian agrees. The two embark on a journey that involves enlisting the help of Katie’s infatuated coworker, Brian pretending to be an investment banker, the discovery of a platonic affair, a disastrous conspiracy filled therapy session, and countless blow out arguments. As the dinner party draws near, Brian and Katie wonder if they can keep up the charade, or if it will crumble under the weight of their lies and unresolved feelings.
Critics Say:
“Fans of character-driven indie films, awkward situational humour, and on the lookout for a fun, easy film will find A Fantastic Relationship both endearing and honest.”
– Romey Norton, Film Focus Online
