The Damned
Starring: Odessa Young, Joe Cole, Lewis Briggen , Directed by: Thordur Palsson
Eva (Odessa Young), a 19th-century widow is tasked with making an impossible choice when, in the middle of an especially cruel winter, a ship sinks off the coast of her isolated fishing post. Eva and her crew must choose to either rescue the shipwrecked or survive the winter with their last remaining food. Facing the consequences of their choice and tormented by their guilt, the inhabitants wrestle with a mounting sense of dread and begin to believe they are all being punished for their choices.
What critics are saying:
“Had we been allowed to truly sit with the characters’ prejudices, then The Damned might have earned the desperation with which it strains for contemporary resonance.” – Ed Gonzalez, Slant Magazine
“A story told through dreams and shadows that, while often repetitive in its approach, is still effectively told.” – Siddhant Adlakha, Variety

The Last Republican
Starring: Adam Kinzinger Directed by: Steve Pink
Displaying an unwavering commitment to putting country over self, Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger sacrificed his career and personal relationships by publicly demanding accountability for Donald Trump’s role in the January 6 insurrection. Filmed during Kinzinger’s final year in Congress, THE LAST REPUBLICAN reveals behind-the-scenes insights into the explosive January 6 committee hearings while delving into what drove him to take a stand as well as the lasting impact of his decision.
What the critics are saying:
“Mostly elides Kinzinger’s positions on various issues, seemingly to make him more palatable here as a Capra-esque hero who is exclusively defined by standing up to corruption, and against a politician that the filmmaker also opposes.” – Matt Zoller Seitz, Roger Ebert.com
“The handsome, charismatic and extremely articulate politician proves a natural camera subject and self-deprecatingly takes pains to downplay his moral stance.” – Frank Scheck, The Hollywood Reporter
From Ground Zero
Starring: Aws Al-Banna, Kenzi Al Balbisi, Mohammed Kamel Directed by: Aws Al-Banna (and many more)
22 Palestinian filmmakers living through war capture their lives in Gaza following the attacks on October 7, 2023, revealing stories beyond the headlines. Through a blend of animation, documentary, and fiction, they create a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit. This film serves as a remarkable reflection of how art can thrive even in the darkest times, showcasing the enduring spirit and creativity that emerge amid ongoing devastation.
What critics say:
“The film is a stirring testament to art as a tool of survival, to the power of community art-making to affirm life in the face of omnipresent death, and to a nationless people’s desire to be seen by and engage in dialogue with the community of nations.” – Eli Friedberg, Slant Magazine
“Collating 21 vignettes of varying lengths, some as short as two minutes, this is a hugely revealing watch but not an easy one… Nevertheless, there is enough variety and nuance here to sustain a sobering yet often hopeful panorama.” – Jonathan Romney, Screen International
“22 directors present cinematic diaries from Gaza, shot between (and sometimes during) IDF bombing raids. Each short is unique in its conception, and yet, is bound by a common resilience, and a need to document the violent interruption of life and routine.” – Siddhant Adlakha, Variety

A woman doesn’t take much notice when her young son mentions he has a new friend who lives in the basement of their country estate. However, as the boy spends more time in the dark, cold space under the house, her concern begins to turn to fear.
