FILM FESTIVAL NEWS: Justin Chon's GOOK, and Jeremy S. Levine and Landon Van Soest's FOR AHKEEM lead the way as the 2017 Tallgrass Film Festival Announces their Filmmaker Awards

The 14th Annual Tallgrass Film Festival presented by Consolidated Equities Trust (October 12-16) announced their filmmaker awards, led by Golden Strands Outstanding Feature Awards for Justin Chon’s GOOK (Narrative), and Jeremy S. Levine and Landon Van Soest’s FOR AHKEEM (Documentary), prior to their Closing Night Gala screening of Lysa Heslov’s SERVED LIKE A GIRL on Sunday, October 22 at the Orpheum Theater in Wichita, Kansas.

“This year’s selections feature stories and characters that are both timely and easily relatable, while delivering a unique and bold take, leading to films that feel anything but familiar,” said Tallgrass Film Festival Programing Director Nick Pope. “Ultimately these are films about redemption and self-discovery in a world that can be messy and unpredictable, but also rewarding and surprising. We’re honored to be showcasing these stories to Wichita audiences.”

The Dallas Film Society announced the award winners for the 11th edition of the Dallas International Film Festival at the annual Dallas Film Society Honors Gala Presented by the Arthur E. Benjamin Foundation held at The Highland Dallas (5300 E. Mockingbird) on Friday, April 7. C.A. Gabriel and Renée Felice Smith’s THE RELATIONTRIP took home the Narrative Feature Grand Jury Prize and Jonathan Olshefski’s QUEST was awarded the Documentary Feature Grand Jury Prize.

FILM FESTIVAL NEWS: BOOM! Jamie Brooks ‘s BOMB CITY blows up Dallas International Film Festival red carpet on Friday, March 31st

The Dallas International Film Festival featured the cast and crew from BOMB CITY on the red carpet, Friday, March 31st at the Dallas City Performance Hall. Apparently all of Texas worked on the film because the group shot was one of the largest DIFF has ever had. Also joining on the carpet were THE BIG SPOON, BILL’S RECORDS, DEALT, END OF THE EARTH, and PROXY. A full house and a full carpet!
