The film festival community in Dallas, Fort Worth and North Texas has long been an unsung hero for film lovers locally, bringing films to audiences that they likely would never have had an opportunity to see on a big screen or even be aware of, otherwise.
EarthxFilm, presented by EarthX, reported that the growth of the environmentally focused film festival in their 2nd year, included a 65% increase in attendance from the first year. The festival wrapped things up on Sunday, April 22, by handing out the first awards ever presented by the fest, including cash prizes totaling $37,000.

EARTHxFilm has announced its CALL FOR ENTRIES looking for documentary, narrative and short submissions for the second annual film festival in April 2018 with prize money totaling $25,000. EARTHxFilm takes place during EARTHx, a global environmental expo and summit in Dallas, Texas.
The Women Texas Film Festival announced today that Studio Movie Grill (SMG) will be the presenting sponsor for this year’s edition of the critically acclaimed film festival. WTxFF also announced that film festival and film production veteran Vanessa Cook has come onboard as the festival’s Executive Director.
that attention to detail and/or the prioritization as to where that attention to detail should be focused routinely comes from the top. And this is where I have to give a big nod to Executive Director David Schillhammer, Programming Director Matthew Curtis, and Programming Coordinator Tim Anderson. Those positions are fraught with epic headache-inducing crises and tough judgment calls, and thankless task after thankless task. And David, Matthew, and Tim, managed to both do whatever they had to do to command their film festival ship and heard the cats that are the filmmakers, jury members, patrons, sponsors, film fans, etc. quite obviously have good film programming chops, and also display poise befitting Mr. Roarke from “Fantasy Island.”
From film festival to film festival, I wrapped up the Dallas International Film Festival, immediately went into the brand new EARTHxFilm festival (both of which I am the publicist for), and from there headed directly to the Florida Film Festival, where I had been asked to be on the Narrative Jury. EARTHxFilm and Earth Day Texas rolled out the Green Carpet to honor environmental heres and activists at the Global Green Gala on Friday, April 21 at Fair Park, in Dallas. Featuring a heady mix of people on the front lines working to literally save the earth, as well as filmmakers documenting and illustrating those efforts, the red carpet also included several of the guests contributing to the mission.
The very first red….er, I mean GREEN carpet for the very first EARTHxFilm and their very first Opening Night Gala selection, Jeff Orlowski’s CHASING CORAL featured Earth Day Texas and EARTHxFilm luminaries, a cool race car driver, and an Oscar winner! All of them walked along a turf carpet that could double as a putting green outside Fair Park’s beautiful Music Hall.
We have been fortunate in our very first year to secure award-winning films, provocative films, and some very entertaining and exciting cinema with a focus on the environment, as well as offer up a number of first-look opportunities for our audiences to see films and projects that have the potential to make a real difference in people’s lives in the future.
