Anyone that knows me at all, or my history, knows about one of the primary things I do for a living, etc. would likely think it was fightin’ words if someone legitimately asked me, “What’s the point of having a red carpet at a film festival?”
I can’t imagine Francis Ford Coppola standing in front of a Best Buy bin while wearing an old-timey change belt or fanny pack and taking a couple dollars at a time for his GODFATHER films. So why should I do that with my next epic (because it will TOTALLY be an an epic, I’m telling you)?
The whole world is now aware, in large part due to Rose’s efforts, about the rampant sexual harassment within the entertainment industry, and so in her honor, we have pulled together a panel of guests who are attending the festival with their films, for a frank conversation, because the message doesn’t stop here.
Given the subject matter this could have been trite and tacky fodder for an afternoon special but Barton keeps it low key and very real. The solid friends who help us navigate our world, the humor among friends and sarcastic families, people who get so wrapped up in what could-have-been that they don’t see what’s right in front of them; she never takes the easy way out nor the over the top reaction.
Inside the Loop will open with Dorie Barton’s award-winning comedy GIRL FLU, close with Ben Bacharach-White’s music comedy MOCK AND ROLL, and will include a meet-and-greet and “Conversation on Hollywood” with “Young & the Restless” star Daniel Goddard, among an exciting three-day weekend in October including a total of 7 feature-length films and 22 short films.
that attention to detail and/or the prioritization as to where that attention to detail should be focused routinely comes from the top. And this is where I have to give a big nod to Executive Director David Schillhammer, Programming Director Matthew Curtis, and Programming Coordinator Tim Anderson. Those positions are fraught with epic headache-inducing crises and tough judgment calls, and thankless task after thankless task. And David, Matthew, and Tim, managed to both do whatever they had to do to command their film festival ship and heard the cats that are the filmmakers, jury members, patrons, sponsors, film fans, etc. quite obviously have good film programming chops, and also display poise befitting Mr. Roarke from “Fantasy Island.”
From film festival to film festival, I wrapped up the Dallas International Film Festival, immediately went into the brand new EARTHxFilm festival (both of which I am the publicist for), and from there headed directly to the Florida Film Festival, where I had been asked to be on the Narrative Jury.
