The Film Prize’s top award of $50,000 cash – judged by a mixture of audience and celebrity judges – went to EXIT STRATEGY, directed by Travis Bible. The sci-fi short focused on a young genius’s attempts to manipulate time in order to save his brother’s life.
“The Film Prize has never seen this amazingly high level of work from all of the filmmakers,” said Gregory Kallenberg, Founder and Executive Director of the Film Prize Foundation. “It’s immediate and tangible proof that everyone can see on the big screen of the talent, both local to Louisiana and from all over the country, that is continuing to grow and to film here in Louisiana.”
Let’s face it, there is a lottery aspect to all of this, except YOU have quite a bit of influence over who gets that big-ass check. I feel like I am saying the same thing over and over again here, but the fact is that the culmination is a genuinely affecting moment that sweeps every single person involved up into it. And THAT is the magic of Film Prize.
“This year’s Film Prize films were amazing, so Matteo and the cast and crew of WE GO ON should be incredibly proud to have won our $10,000 prize,” said Gregory Kallenberg, founder and executive director of the Film Prize Foundation. “The Memphis Film Prize has, once again, shown that Memphis is an upcoming indie film capital. I deeply wanted to give you a reason to practice your art and your passion. I wanted to give you a goal to strive for and for that goal to yield the creation of a film you would be proud of. To me, there are fewer and fewer places that celebrate your work in a way you deserve, and, to me, there is no better place — dare I say it? — on the planet to do this besides the Film Prize!
