Now, one of the best sources for the films in my library has been Kino Lorber. The range and reach of the films they have available now makes them my favorite source of Blu-Rays and DVDs to go to. Yes, yes, yes, I have my share of Criterion discs, but there is a whole lot of broccoli movies going on there with few hints of popcorn, for my tastes, while Kino Lorber seems to be much more on my wavelength.
The Summer Movie Madness Marathon mimics fundraising walks, runs, and bike rides, with the participants asked to acquire pledges from friends, family, co-workers, etc. to donate funds based on whether or not they watch all four films that day. There will also be prizes for the film fans given away at each screening and for the most money raised for the organization, as well as special appearances to introduce each of the films.
Last year, in a meeting with a major PR firm in L.A., I was told that unless the fest’s dates lined up perfectly with the actual release of the film that there was no way they would recommend that client going to the fest. It was just a pain-in-the-ass for the publicist. And that was a friend of mine. Cutthroat, baby.
