Women Texas Film Festival Founder and Artistic Director Justina Walford said, “Our decision to update the naming of our awards came out of the fact that we wanted to honor filmmakers based on why we program these films: for their leadership, storytelling and vision. From the beginning we wanted to not simply screen films envisioned and created by women, but to push forward the risk takers. Taking those risks makes us stronger filmmakers and it should be lauded at every turn.”

On June 14th, Studio Movie Grill rolled out the orange…yes, the orange carpet as they utilized a theme built around THE INCREDIBLES 2 to honor groundbreaking educator Lisa Schmidt of Creative Solutions and Big Thought. Co-Hosted by WFAA’s Alisha Laventure and featuring Incredibles cos-players, a giant golden ticket, free popcorn for attendees to enjoy and an audience of co-workers, colleagues, supporters, well-wishers, and of course – students, that filled two theaters, the third SMG Opening Hearts and Minds Award was a spectacular and oftentimes, emotional event.

Screening exclusively at Studio Movie Grill’s Spring Valley location in Dallas (13933 N. Central Expy.) on August 15-19, WTxFF will present the World Premiere of Amanda Kramer’s mind-bending film, PARIS WINDOW as their Opening Night selection, with Jenn Wexler’s SXSW hit, THE RANGER serving as the Closing Night selection.

FILM NEWS: Justina Walford from Studio Movie Grill Announces ONE STORY MOVEMENT with up to 11 $1000 prizes for documentary and aspiring filmmakers across the country

SMG’s One Story Movement project invites documentary and aspiring filmmakers to create a short film that highlights the work of those who strive to leave a positive wake in our communities. Films must be under three minutes and about an organization, community, or individual within 30 miles of a Studio Movie Grill location.

On Wednesday, May 23rd, Studio Movie Grill and the Dallas Comedy House teamed up with Poo-Pourri and Comedy Dynamics for the exclusive Dallas premiere of Aaron Feldman’s funny documentary, THE POOP TALK MOVIE. Comedians and the film’s producers (who also make an appearance in the film), Jason and Randy Sklar were on hand to talk about the making of the film and then made a special appearance at the after party and comedy show at the Dallas Comedy House to add their patented wry and offbeat humor to the proceedings to the thrill of the standing room only crowd.

The Dallas Film Society will honor Studio Movie Grill CEO/Founder/Owner Brian Schultz with The Stodghill Award, which celebrates an individual and their long-term efforts in supporting the art of film, at the DFS Spotlight Luncheon next Wednesday, February 21, at the Four Corners Brewing Company (1311 South Ervay Street).
