Kickstarter is working with Factory 25 on the project as well as to help spread the word about the re-release of the film’s 25th Anniversary this year (first ever digital). Apparently, the only archival b&w print of the film had been damaged, but now fans of the film and the filmmaker can have a hand in restoring the damaged print and re-releasing it.
The Women Texas Film Festival announced today that Studio Movie Grill (SMG) will be the presenting sponsor for this year’s edition of the critically acclaimed film festival. WTxFF also announced that film festival and film production veteran Vanessa Cook has come onboard as the festival’s Executive Director.
They live with a painful memory of a bygone past, yet they refuse to throw themselves back to the earlier time often associated with a point of no return, their hometown -which they felt they rebelled with a cause. To a certain extent, the film is indeed a reflection upon contemporary China at a crossroads.
We forgot about the outside world. No one came and went. No agents visiting. I didn’t even have one. We all stayed in a funky motel on the outskirts of Reno in rooms that circled the pool. We were like a little theater company in the heat of summer that went off to a small gambling town in the Wild West to tell a story centered around love. You can imagine how contagious that could be.
A couple of years ago I came to know an elderly woman with dementia while I was serving as a hospice volunteer. As her memory and language skills declined, I was challenged to find new ways of communicating and connecting with her. In the film, I explore some of these challenges as well as how generational differences can play into them.
I think the funniest response was when my grandfather first saw the 4″ prints. He said, “I mean… it looking nice but… I no too short like that!”
