Coronado Island Film Festival 2022 announces filmmaker awards following big year for the fest

Coronado Island Film Festival Executive Director Merridee Book, said, “We took another step this year in our growth as a prime destination film festival where filmmakers, especially independent filmmakers, have an opportunity to have their work seen by veteran producers, executives, and top film industry influencers, alongside our film loving audiences. Our award-winning films and our honorees have their work and careers celebrated against the backdrop of Hollywood’s beautiful home away from home a bridge ride across the bay from San Diego. Each year, we become less and less of a ‘best kept secret’ and more and more of the fest you don’t want to miss in November.”

The Coronado Island Film Festival (November 10-13) opens this week with an impressive lineup of films with awards-aspirations, as well as the honorees for the 2022 Leonard Maltin Industry Awards Gala. Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light is the Opening Night selection, Elegance Bratton’s The Inspection is the Centerpiece selection, and Maria Schrader’s She Said taking the Closing Night spot, along with CIFF’s traditional screening of Billy Wilder’s classic Some Like it Hot.

The Asian Film Festival of Dallas (AFFD) marked it’s big in-person/in-theater comeback after two years of only doing one-off events, with the film festival’s very first red carpet presentation. With filmmakers representing films that have been major film festival players and award-winners this year (CAT DADDIES, DEALING WITH DAD, 7 DAYS) in attendance, representatives from key and influential DFW organizations (Dallas Asian Historical Society, Orchid Giving Circle), top DFW female filmmakers celebrating the fest’s day-long Sunday focus on female filmmakers, and special guests like Dr. Tiffany Moon (Real Housewives of Dallas) and Ricco Fajardo (MY HERO ACADEMIA) making appearances, AFFD delivered the kind of film festival event the city very rarely sees these days.

Anna Baumgarten’s Disfluency: Oxford Film Festival 2022 announces award winners with THE FIRST STEP, and THE FEARLESS 11 taking top prizes

Anna Baumgarten’s Disfluency was named Best Narrative Feature, which included a $15,000 camera rental package from Panavision, and Brandon Kramer’s The First Step won Best Documentary Feature. The Best Documentary Feature prize also included a $15,000 camera rental package from Panavision. Ashley E. Gibson’s The Fearless 11 won Best Mississippi Feature. Her prize came with a one-year membership and free equipment rentals from OxFilm Society. Later, it was announced that Alysia Nahmias’ Krimes was the Barton Segal Audience Award winner.
