THE SYNOPSIS: Emi, a Japanese American and bride-to-be, reconnects with her recently relocated grandmother. As the two learn about each other, Emi begins to embrace a side of her she never knew, opening a door that can never be closed.

WHAT DID WE TALK ABOUT: Luka talks about her “co-creator” credit and how she kick started the idea of doing the film and teaming with her cousin, Josh, to make it. Josh discusses the process of being efficient to hit story points and beats and yet not have a bloated narrative (especially since it was a short film). Both talk about the inspiration to explore the “otherness” of being someone who is either mixed race or the product of mixed cultures. Luka also talks about how her tenacity and willingness to initiate self-generated projects helps her achieve as an actor when there are slower moments or periods audition-wise.
