Asian Film Festival of Dallas 2023 does the red carpet thing in front of a cool-ass mural

This year’s Asian Film Festival of Dallas put a spin on the traditional red carpet entrances by staging them in front of a specially created mural as opposed to a step and repeat with festival and sponsor logos. It made for a dynamic presentation for the attending filmmakers, including those from THE ACCIDENTAL GETAWAY DRIVER and WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO CHANGE.

The Asian Film Festival of Dallas (AFFD) marked it’s big in-person/in-theater comeback after two years of only doing one-off events, with the film festival’s very first red carpet presentation. With filmmakers representing films that have been major film festival players and award-winners this year (CAT DADDIES, DEALING WITH DAD, 7 DAYS) in attendance, representatives from key and influential DFW organizations (Dallas Asian Historical Society, Orchid Giving Circle), top DFW female filmmakers celebrating the fest’s day-long Sunday focus on female filmmakers, and special guests like Dr. Tiffany Moon (Real Housewives of Dallas) and Ricco Fajardo (MY HERO ACADEMIA) making appearances, AFFD delivered the kind of film festival event the city very rarely sees these days.

The 2020 edition of Dallas’ Best of Fests doubled down on the remarkable fact that the film festival, which incorporated more than two dozen of Dallas, Fort Worth, and North Texas’ film festivals was accomplished last year, by managing to produce a robust sequel this year. There is a rare collegial relationship between the vast majority of the film festival heads in the area and many of them share several seasonal staffers, volunteers, and, of course, audience members.
